D-Link has started to ship its HomeKit-compatible Omna 180 Cam HD in Europe, with the network-connected camera now appearing in regional online Apple Stores in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
The security camera was discovered in the German online Apple Store by iFun.de, available to buy and priced at 299.95 ($317). It is also claimed it is only available through Apple itself, with it reportedly exclusive to the online and retail Apple Stores in Germany.
AppleInsider has since discovered listings for the Omna 180 Cam HD in the French, Spanish, UK, Polish, Portuguese, and Swedish online Apple Stores, with the option for delivery by February 15 or 16 appearing in stores covering the UK, France, and Spain, as well as Germany. In a number of cases, the camera is also listed as available to pick up from retail Apple Stores, with London branches showing availability on February 16.
A search of the US online Apple Store does come up with a listing for the Omna 180, priced at $199.95, but shipping for delivery in one to two weeks, and with in-store pick-up from March 1. AppleInsider has contacted D-Link for confirmation of shipment dates for the camera, for both European and North American territories.
Launched during CES, the Omna 180 Cam HD provides a 180-degree field of view and infrared-based night vision capabilities. Able to stream footage over a wireless network, it is also able to store video clips locally to a microSDXC card, eliminating the need to subscribe to a cloud storage service.
Like other similar networked cameras on the market, the Omna 180 Cam HD can provide notifications to iPhones and iPads when it detects movement and sound, with HomeKit allowing feeds to be encrypted between the camera and an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV. Its compatibility also allows it to work in tandem with other HomeKit hardware through the Home app, triggering lights and other device functions when detecting movement.
